The Ten Commandments of Hashomer Hatzair
Following Shraga Weil

1/1
Installation view, Israeli Center for Digital Art, Holon, Israel.
Tati redraws the outlines of Shraga Weil’s 1946 designs and interrupts them with a colored circle. The intervention questions the ideals expressed in the movement’s ten commandments and their relevance today, connecting wall art with the stories of local residents.
Mural documentation.
The movement’s ten commandments, first drafted in 1916 and illustrated by Shraga Weil in 1946, describe the ideal member through values such as Zionism, socialism, and peace among nations. Weil’s figures wear movement uniforms against a rising sun. Tati enlarges these designs and spray-paints them on the local branch’s walls, replacing the figures with a large, opaque yellow mark.

Tati and Tali Tamir invited instructors from the local youth movement branch to participate in Schooling (Bristolim), an exhibition about education, socialization, and classroom life. After Tati had transformed their branch into an artwork, the instructors entered his professional space: the museum. There, they spray-painted the movement’s ten commandments on the walls, preserving Weil’s original design.
