The Kaboom! Process - Dough portrait

Danish artist Søren Dahlgaard created Dough Portraits as part of Your Boy Will Amount to Nothing. Participants were invited to play with and mould the dough before placing it on their heads, producing an unconventional take on the classical portrait. Dahlgaard describes the work as relating to the histories of photography and painting: covering the face with a 10 kg lump of dough directs attention to body language, clothing, and the expression of the hands. The playful process engages with identity through a material familiar to everyone. At the time of this project’s documentation, Dahlgaard had presented Dough Portraits in 14 countries.
