The Decision Plan (2024)

The Decision Plan, CCA, Tel Aviv, Israel
The Decision Plan by Meir Tati is a performance for virtual characters and human performers. It centres on the “Decision Plan,” a political document published in 2017 by Bezalel Smotrich, then a member of the Israeli parliament. The document proposes resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by requiring Palestinians to abandon their national aspirations while placing the entire territory under Israeli sovereignty.
The document is read by digital avatars originally designed for commercial presentations and educational materials. AI technology processes and vocalizes the text. The avatars’ restrained facial expressions and monotonous delivery create an alienating, impersonal presentation, emphasizing the absence of attention to the human dimension of the conflict.
The performers respond to the avatars and the text on screen, reintroducing human presence and personal experience into the political space of the performance. Their presence demands the return of power, authority, and responsibility for ourselves and the world from the machines that appear to solve everything for us.
As AI-based writing technology advances, the work asks what becomes of the author: does the author remain a figure of authority, or become another entry in a database? What happens between the loss of human presence and the personification of technology?
The Decision Plan (Action Number 13) is performed by Maayan Danoch, Shahar Marcus, and Kim Teitelbaum.
